Critical Operation Technician

Position Summary

IDCA, a global leader in data center standards and certification, is seeking a Critical Operations Technician (COT) to support data center operations. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems within mission-critical environments. The COT will execute key programs focused on Safety, Availability, Communication, and Operational Excellence, supporting the continuous performance of world-class digital infrastructure.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with standardized safety protocols across all data center operations.
• Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems, including electrical, mechanical, and fire life safety.
• Track and analyze operational performance to drive efficiency and reliability.
• Execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
• Manage maintenance discrepancies and coordinate issue resolution with site management.
• Optimize data center efficiency through monitoring and implementation of best practices.
• Prevent unplanned customer-impacting outages by proactively managing infrastructure.
• Oversee mechanical and electrical system operations, including UPS, transformers, PDUs, RPPs, chillers, CRAH/CRAC units, STS, ATS, and pre-action sprinkler systems.
• Coordinate and oversee power installations, upgrades, and cooling system performance.
• Utilize CMMS systems for tracking work orders, maintenance logs, and asset management.
• Maintain proper labeling and inventory tracking for all data center equipment.
• Deliver exceptional customer service and technical support.
• Provide incident response, escalation, and follow-up reporting.
• Conduct regular facility and security inspections, documenting and resolving issues.
• Assist with the development and refinement of preventative and corrective maintenance procedures.
• Be available for on-call duties outside of normal working hours.

Qualifications & Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1–3 years of experience in data center operations or mission-critical environments.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and database systems.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in high-pressure situations.
• Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems used in data centers.
• Knowledge of compliance and safety standards, including NFPA70e, NFPA72, NFPA25, and fire life safety codes.
• Experience with data center trending, monitoring, and analysis tools.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
• Availability to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, late nights, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

• U.S. Navy Nuclear Engineering background preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
