Google Goes for Almost a Gigawatt of Solar Power with SB Energy Global
PARIS, Texas (IDCA) - Google is buying about 75% of the renewable power from Softbank-backed SB Energy Global's Texas facilities, according to Google's parent company Alphabet. The deal will involve about 900 megawatts of electrical power, drawn from SB Energy’s Orion 1, 2 and 3 and Eiffel solar projects. These projects are designed to generate nearly 1.2 gigawatts of electricity by mid-2024.
Google's deal with SB Energy Global comes as part of the company's strategy to operate all of its data centers on carbon-free energy by 2030. In announcing the deal, Google cited the Biden Administration's $430-billion inflation Reduction Act, which provides tax credits as incentives for companies to shift to clean energy.
